The last interview for this year is online now. I never expected that my project could grow so wonderful in such a short time and that I could include such great photographers. It was a great pleasure to work with every single one of them. Beside of being an outstanding photographer, everyone is an absolutely charming and nice person.

For the end of season I am excited and happy to add Alec Soth. He spontaneously agreed to answer my questions and we had many very nice and inspiring email contacts.

Ahorn Magazine

Daniel Augschöll and Anya Jasbär are founding a new online magazine dedicated to contemporary photography. It is called AHORN, ready to read on the web every month, beginning from January 2009.

Ahorn is a place to discuss about photography and to discover more about contemporary perspectives with critical awareness. Every month one emerging photographer will be selected for a Solo Show. The magazine will also present, on a regular basis, many interviews with and about established photographers.
The principal aim is to give the readers a tool to know what's happening in contemporary photography, and to offer young photographers an interesting place to bring their work to a wider audience.

Too Much Chocolate

Now it's official, Jake Stangel just launched an exciting new project called

Too Much Chocolate

Here is what he writes about it:

Too much chocolate specifically aims to serve and connect young emerging photographers all over the internet.

At this point, we all exist in a hazy internet bubble, not really sure who or what is exactly out there. Sure, we all have a handful of internet photographer friends, and we bounce around on informative blogs, but there is a need for a ‘hub’ where emerging photographers can reach out to one another, have a running dialogue, ask questions, just talk, and feel some sense of collectiveness.

There are three main areas on the site, meant to address the following needs:

- Rotating Gallery: Wouldn’t it be nice to be exposed to a new collection of mind-blowing work every week? How neat would it be if THAT photographer then chose the NEXT week’s artist, then interviewed him/her about their workflow, influencers, style? It would be like an internet photo conga line!

- Discussion: Wouldn’t it be great to know you can participate in a living conversation between photographers, like yourself, that doesn’t die within the week? About anything on your mind? In a nice environment of inclusion, resource-sharing, and philosophical dialogue?

- Interviews: Wouldn’t it be helpful to get the advice of photo editors, art buyers, curators, etc. that is specifically tailored to us, especially when we don’t have the money or desire to send out thousands of promos for a 1% return?

This site is just the beginning of whatever we want it to be come. It’s here for you. Click on my name to email me with ideas, questions, and suggestions.

“Transamerica” was a project conceived and shot on two separate cross-country bicycle trips I took in 2007 and 2008. The project, shot on 4x5 and medium format film, aims to capture my travel experiences, as well as the vivid and thoroughly American world that still exists along the backroads of the United States.

Advice to young photographers

Takashi Murakami in Frankfurt

Yesterday we went to see the Murakami show at the MMK (Museum of modern art Frankfurt) in Frankfurt. The whole museum is turned into a Murakami world and shows only art by the japanese artist. It was really fun to see the show and to watch the movies of Kaikai and Kiki. If you are in Frankfurt or nearby, make sure to see the exhibition.

Another big event for Photography opens today. Paris Photo, the worlds premier fair for photography. So, at the moment Europe is the center for photography in the world, which is very exciting not only for us Europeans, but for the whole photography world.

Since it first began more than a decade ago, Paris Photo has won recognition as the world's premier fair for still photography. This unique event offers a panorama of fine art photography from its early days to the present day, and presents a forward-looking overview of global trends and expressions available in this medium.

The 2008 edition, which brings together some one hundred galleries and publishers from around the world, will coincide with Paris Photography Month, making the City of Lights the international epicentre of art photography.

European Month of Photography, Berlin

This November Berlin is the center of photography in Europe. For the third time the European Month of Photography takes place in Berlin and the city is full of exciting photo exhibitions and events.

The Third European Month of Photography in Berlin will be taking place from 1 to 30 November 2008. For the first time it comes with a motto – 'Never seen before' is its proud claim, and it has inspired the delight in discovery and innovative imagination of the institutions taking part. More than 130 galleries, project rooms, museums and cultural institutes are involved this year, promising a packed series of exhibitions, private views, events, symposiums and workshops. For a period of 30 days the concentrated programme will draw attention to the medium of photography, offering the public new and unusual insights and giving the international photographic scene a platform for discussion.

If you are in Europe, make sure to visit Berlin, whatever you have heard about Berlin, it's true, but only even much better. It's next to New York City, the world capital of art. And I have to say, I love Berlin

Call for entries

Liz Kuball had a great idea. She started an online exhibition project for everyone who got rejected at Critical Mass. And there aren't so few of us who had made the same experience as Liz.

So get your photo out and send it to Liz. But you have to hurry, the deadline is already today!!!

Send me your favorite photo from your Critical Mass entry, the one you’re thinking rocked it so hard that the Critical Mass jurors must be blind not to have chosen you. The deadline is Thursday, October 30, at 8:59 p.m. Pacific time (11:59 p.m. New York time). The next day, I’ll post every photo I’ve received. Spread the word.

Note: Please send your image at 72 dpi, measuring at least 500 pixels on the longest side. (If you’ve already sent me your image, no worries.)

Photographs and digital prints are acceptable as long as they are the original media, i.e, no digital reproductions of paintings, etc.On the back of each work, write your name, address, and email address. NO Post-It notes, please.
